Sara Zdravevska – Promotional Campaign "Science for the Future"

Science Doesn't Just Give Us Answers – It Teaches Us How to Find Them

As part of the Science for the Future promotional campaign, implemented with the support of the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Programme, we are pleased to share the inspiring story of Sara Zdravevska, a Special Education Teacher and Rehabilitation Specialist and Science Teacher at the "Kocho Racin" Resource Centre in Bitola.

As an educator, Sara believes that the true value of science is not in providing all the answers, but in empowering students to discover them on their own. For her, every child has unique potential that can flourish when given the opportunity to explore, think, and believe in themselves.

Her message to young learners is simple, yet deeply inspiring: “The greatest gift science can give a child is not the right answer, but the confidence that they can discover it on their own.”

In her personal story, Sara explains how her professional journey taught her that every child has their own way of learning and discovering the world: “I did not come from a traditional scientific background. By profession, I am a special educator and rehabilitation specialist, and today I teach science subjects. At first glance, this may seem like an unusual combination, but to me, it feels completely natural.

Working with students has taught me that science is much more than a collection of facts, formulas, or experiments. It is a way of thinking that encourages exploration, trial and error, and the courage to try again. In that process, something even more important than learning takes place—a student begins to believe in themselves.

Every day, I see that potential is not always visible at first sight. Sometimes, the greatest surprise comes from the student from whom the least is expected—not because they suddenly changed, but because they were finally given the opportunity to show what they are capable of.

Those moments remind me that science is not about giving the right answers, but about creating the space for everyone to find them independently. That is why I love science—not because it always provides ready-made solutions, but because it teaches us never to place limits on anyone's potential.

I never became a scientist. Yet science taught me something even more valuable—it taught me never to place limits on any child. So, if today you are wondering whether science is for you, don't look for the answer in other people's expectations. Look for it in your own curiosity.”

Sara Zdravevska is part of a community of dedicated educators who, through the Science for the Future campaign, inspire young people to believe in their abilities, nurture their curiosity, and recognize science as a pathway to personal growth, knowledge, and a brighter future.
