As part of the Science for the Future promotional campaign, implemented with the support of the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Programme, we are pleased to share the inspiring story of Katerina Trajanova, a Chemistry Teacher at "Kosta Racin" Primary School in Podareš and "Kiril and Metodij" Primary School in Radovish, who helps students discover the beauty and real-world applications of chemistry every day.

For Katerina, chemistry is not just a school subject - it is the science that helps us understand life and the world around us.

Her message to young learners is both inspiring and encouraging: “Chemistry is not only the science of substances - it is the science that explains how life works and how small changes can lead to great discoveries. Dear students, stay curious, because chemistry is hidden in every breath we take, in every cell, and in every drop of water - it is the science that connects the world around us.”

In her personal story, Katerina shares how her passion for chemistry has guided her throughout her professional journey: “As a graduate chemical engineer, I spent 14 years working in the laboratory of the Buchim Mine, where I gained valuable experience performing analyses using modern chemical equipment. My desire to continue learning and growing professionally led me to pursue a Master's degree in Chemical Sciences.

In September, I began a new and especially meaningful chapter in my career - as a chemistry teacher. I believe that knowledge has its greatest value when it is shared with others. My goal is to inspire students to stay curious, explore, and develop a love for chemistry as a science that is present in every aspect of our daily lives.

I believe that every student has the potential to become a future engineer, scientist, or innovator who will help make the world a better place. Never stop asking questions, learning, and believing in your abilities - because that is where every great discovery begins.”

Katerina Trajanova is part of a community of dedicated educators who, through the Science for the Future campaign, inspire young people to see science as a pathway to knowledge, innovation, and a brighter future.
