Through science, we discover worlds within our world!

Science is a journey through endless worlds – from microscopic organisms to the complex mechanisms that drive life. As part of our campaign “Science for the Future”, implemented under the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Program “Science and Me,” we are pleased to share the inspiring story of Teodora Atanasovska, a student of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM) in Skopje, and a Macedonia2025 scholarship recipient through the Atanas Bliznakov Program for Student Excellence.

From an early age, Teodora was drawn to mysteries and the discovery of new worlds through books. Over time, she realized that the greatest mysteries are not only in the pages of novels but in nature itself – in the cells, genes, and molecules that create life. Through her educational journey, Teodora found her passion in science, and today, through molecular biology, she discovers worlds invisible to the naked eye yet essential to our existence.

Here is how she describes her scientific journey:

*"I am Teodora Atanasovska, a second-year student in Molecular Biology and Genetics. My first love was books, and my second love is science. In books, I was drawn to the mysteries and the possibility of discovering new worlds. I chose biology when I realized that it holds the greatest mysteries of life and nature. Through biology, I can explore countless worlds – from tiny microorganisms, through cellular processes, all the way to molecular-level events.

Even after finishing primary school, I knew I wanted to study a natural science, so I enrolled in the Natural Sciences program B at the Kumanovo Gymnasium. In biology classes, I was particularly fascinated by the lessons on molecular biology, which led me to continue my education in this field.

Now, at university, I encounter new areas of biology every day. I plan and hope to continue deepening my knowledge and, in the future, even contribute to new discoveries."*

Teodora reminds us that science is an endless adventure filled with mysteries waiting to be discovered. Curiosity is the key, and knowledge is the path. Her motivational message is:
