Let’s inspire the next generations of scientists together!

As part of the “Science for the Future” campaign, implemented through the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Program “Science and Me,” we are proud to share the inspiring story of Anamarija Mitkovska, a student of Molecular Biology with Genetics at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Skopje (SS. Cyril and Methodius University), and a scholarship recipient of Macedonia2025 through the “Atanas Bliznakoff” Student Excellence Program.

Anamarija is proof that curiosity and the desire to explore can be guiding forces in life. From the first moment she encountered biology as a challenge to today—when she studies the essence of life at the molecular level—she has pursued her passion with tireless enthusiasm.

Here is how she describes her journey through science:

*"Every new discovery creates new curiosity, and that curiosity leads to further exploration.

My journey into the world of science began at age 12, when I first delved deeper into biology. I faced a major challenge—the national biology competition. That was my first step into one of the amphitheaters at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. That day left an unforgettable impression on me—the feeling of excitement, inspiration, and awe at the world of science became a part of me.

As time passed, my love for biology grew stronger. In high school, I discovered a new branch—molecular biology with genetics. Until then, I viewed living organisms as a whole, but studying molecular biology allowed me to explore their essence, the molecular mechanisms that drive life.

Although many concepts were new and complex, I approached them with great enthusiasm and passion, eventually becoming a student of Molecular Biology with Genetics. Every day at the university is a new adventure, a new journey through the world of science. I cannot wait to discover something new, study it in detail, and connect the knowledge I gain.

For me, biology is not just a science—it is a way of thinking, a way of life."*

What motivates her to keep going?

"Science is my compass, curiosity is my engine, and discovery is my goal—with every step forward, I uncover the unknown."
