Elena Stankovska – “SCIENCE FOR THE FUTURE” Promotional Campaign

Let’s inspire the next generation of scientists together!

As part of our “Science for the Future” campaign, implemented under the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Program “Science and Me,” we are pleased to share the inspiring story of Elena Stankovska, a Master of Chemical Sciences and an independent researcher in the chemical department at AD Granit Skopje. Through her curiosity and dedication, she shows us that science is not just a collection of facts but a way of thinking, exploring, and constantly discovering the wonders around us.

Elena believes that a love for science begins with admiration for life, curiosity to uncover its secrets, and a desire for limitless learning. Here is how she shares her experience and inspiration:

*"Did you know that when a sperm cell fuses with an egg cell, a flash occurs as a result of the release of a large amount of zinc? Did you know that mitochondria contain unique DNA inherited exclusively from the mother? Have you heard of the mesentery, declared an organ of the digestive tract in 2016, whose function is still unknown? Did you know that it takes more than one brain to create the human mind?

My name is Elena Stankovska, I hold a Master’s degree in Chemical Sciences, and I am an independent researcher in the chemical department of a private company. For me, science is one of the ways to explain the mystery of life. Completing my studies in chemistry and then my master’s degree was the beginning—or rather, the rekindling—of the sense of 'wonder' at the miracle called life that every child has. I still try to nurture that wonder, to learn, and to grow.

Each of us started with a flash, so shine every day in your life and in the lives of others. Never stop being amazed and inspired, because the wonders are within us and all around us."*

This story is a reminder that science is the key to uncovering the secrets of life. Keep exploring, asking questions, and discovering—because the greatest wonders are those we have yet to uncover!

Her motivational message is:

"If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate!"
