As part of the “Science for the Future” campaign, implemented under the Johnson Matthey Community Impact Program “Science and Me,” we are proud to share the inspiring story of Biljana Ilieva, mentor teacher and biology teacher at “St. Kliment Ohridski” Elementary School in Dračево, Skopje.

Biljana Ilieva is an example of how a love for science and dedication to students can leave a lasting mark on future generations. She believes that science is not just a collection of facts, but a journey full of curiosity, exploration, and discovery, where every student has an equal chance to find their passion.

Here is her motivational message for all elementary students:

“Science is not just a collection of facts – it is a journey where every student has an equal opportunity to nurture their curiosity, investigative spirit, experiment, and uncover scientific truths, because great scientists are not born—they are shaped step by step, starting in school.”

Biljana also shares her personal journey:

“I have always wanted to be a teacher. My persistence and dedication made that dream come true. For 30 years, I have loved my profession as a biology teacher, instilling in my students a part of myself and my passion for science. The greatest reward for me as their teacher is seeing them grow into mature, hardworking, successful, and satisfied young people, prepared for the challenges of the modern world.”
