Let’s inspire more pupils to love SCIENCE!

Embarking on a mission to provoke a passion for science among young minds, our promotional campaign, “Science for the Future,” proudly presents Jovan Stefanovski, a dynamic Laboratory Analyst working in Quality Control at Johnson Matthey Macedonia.

He shared with us the beginning of his professional journey in Johnson Matthey, stating: “I recall one day, as I checked my email inbox, I noticed a message from both my faculty and the head professor of the Center of Career and Talent agency. Initially, I wasn’t paying attention to it, assuming it was yet another notification about a COVID crisis seminar, a frequent occurrence in my inbox. Little did I anticipate that this email held the potential to change my life, as it revealed an internship opportunity with Johnson Matthey, the largest and highest-grossing company in North Macedonia, specifically targeting pharmacy students like myself for a program in the laboratory department.

Given that I was nearing the completion of my studies with an expected graduation the following year, I decided to seize the opportunity and enroll in the internship program. Stepping into the Johnson Matthey laboratory for the first time remains vivid in my memory. Meeting my mentors and exploring the entire department, we were introduced to various equipment and instruments. Each intern was assigned a specific instrument, and I found myself tasked with sample preparation and the determination of metals through ICP-OES analysis.

The staff at Johnson Matthey was incredibly welcoming and kind, patiently addressing my numerous questions as I crossed the learning curve of being an intern. Eager to research my analysis, I quickly started preparing samples and obtaining results. While my initial outcomes didn’t meet expectations, through dedication and practice, I eventually achieved precise and accurate results, aligning closely with the reference values.

The collaborative efforts of the staff and mentors played a crucial role in my development. I can now confidently affirm that I am part of an exceptional team comprising experienced, enthusiastic, and competent individuals whom I trust implicitly. They generously shared their time and expertise, shaping me into a proficient analyst and aspiring scientist.”

His inspirational quote/personal message to all primary school students to motivate them to choose a science-related career/education is “Science has existed since the beginning of time, and the science of today is the technology of tomorrow. Together we fight for a brighter tomorrow.” These reflective words echo not just as a message, but as a symbol of encouragement, beckoning the next generation to embrace the wonders of science and join the pursuit of a future related to science.
