Over the past decades, the global community has made great efforts in inspiring and engaging women and girls in sciences.
Today, 11 February, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Macedonia2025 together with its partner organization Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, supports the initiative. We are strongly dedicated to supporting young girls and women to follow their path in education, and to fully realize their potential in order to achieve full and equal access to STEM education/career.
We are thrilled that Susan Niczowski, a Canadian entrepreneur of Macedonian origin, Founder and President of “The Summer Fresh Salads Inc.” in Woodbridge, Ontario, joined in our efforts! Her inspirational message for today: “You have to love what you do. When you enjoy what you do, play and have fun, everything comes naturally.”
Suzan Niczowki acquired a degree in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Toronto. She started working as a microbiologist at Shopsy’s Foods, a leading meat plant and part of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In 1991 Susan Niczowski identified a niche market for freshly prepared foods designed for hungry, time-pressed consumers. Her degree in chemistry and experience working at a leading meat plant allowed her to develop the technology to preserve the freshness and quality of vegetables in delicatessen. Susan and her mother first launched Summer Fresh Salads. Today, Niczowski is cited as a self-made millionaire, and her firm Summer Fresh – “an innovative company”. Summer Fresh has 220 employees and sells prepared foods under a private label to big grocery chains. The company has been recognized with a number of prestigious awards from the food industry and business community. In 2007, Summer Fresh was named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies. Niczowski was among 100 women honored in 2003 and 2004 at Canada’s Most Powerful Women Summit organized by the Toronto-based Women’s Executive Network. Among the Top 30 Female Entrepreneurs in Canada she ranked 21st in 2011.
Ms. Nicsowski was a member of the board of the ‘Macedonia 2025 Business and Professionals Association’. In an interview, Mike Zafirovski, one of the founders of Macedonia2025, named Susan Niczowski one of the ‘Big 20’ entrepreneurs of the Macedonian diaspora.
