The Summer Diaspora Business Trip has the purpose of providing young Macedonian Diaspora professionals with a platform where they can reconnect with their heritage, while exploring new opportunities in Macedonia. Besides, the program has the vision of motivating the diaspora to reach out to the Macedonian business community and learn about its potential for investment and starting a business. This year, young professionals from Serbia, Italy, Germany, Canada and Australia had the opportunity to be part of this program, being organized for the third time now.
The program was unofficially opened with a trip to Galicnik Wedding Festival, where members of our program had the chance to meet with the participants from Birthright Macedonia, organized and guided by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation. This was an excellent starting point for establishing better relations, exchanging ideas and getting more familiarized with Macedonia’s rich culture and tradition.
The program’s official opening happened at “Alkaloid A.D Skopje” premises, where Mr. Zhivko Mukaetov – Program Chairman and Macedonia2025 Board Member, welcomed the participants and gave a presentation regarding the international success of the company. After having a tour in the Production Unit in Pharmaceuticals and the Quality Control Unit of “Alkaloid A.D Skopje”, participants became well aware of the work of the company and got a good glimpse of how different sectors function. Afterwards, they officially started with their internships at the companies which were previously assigned to them, in accordance to their professional backgrounds.
Besides the internships, Macedonia2025 also organized another series of events in order for these young Macedonians to meet country key leaders. The main event was the Summer Diaspora Business Trip – Networking Reception, which was held on 19th July at the beautiful Garden Terrace of Hotel Solun in Skopje.
The event hosted over 70 guests who had the chance to hear participants’ impressions, as well as the welcoming speeches of the Program Chairman and Macedonia2025 Board Member Mr. Zhivko Mukatov and Ms. Biljana Markovic Stamenova – Executive Director of Macedonia2025.
Mr. Peter Dallas – Founder of Birthright Macedonia, also welcomed the guests with a warm speech, sharing his relentless passion and commitment towards Macedonia. He emphasized that the main aim of Birthright Macedonia is for participants to come to the country and reconnect with their roots, while doing an internship that complements their academic background. The program is run by two NGOs – United Macedonian Diaspora in Washington DC/ Skopje and Macedonian Center for International Cooperation in Skopje, who take care of successfully executing all program aspects. Aleksandar Krzhalovski – Executive Director of Macedonian Center for International Cooperation highlighted the fact that it is Peter’s inspiration that drives them to run this program, with the idea to make as many memories as possible, thus instilling in them the desire to come back again to the country.
Another interesting trip that was realized throughout the program was the tour to the Tikveš Winery, where participants together with Macedonia2025 staff had a chance to try some of the best traditional Macedonian meals, while tasting some of the best quality Macedonian wines.
In addition, one of the diaspora professionals coming from Germany – Georgi Skangalov, enthusiastically stated:
“I am very proud to be part of this amazing project. I study Chemical Engineering and run my own online business in Germany. Big thanks to Macedonia2025 team for the great organization, as well as to all the sponsors, companies and investors for making this program a reality. I am happy to do my internship at Acibadem Sistina Hospital, where I get to learn many beneficial things about marketing and social media.” – emphasized Skangalov.
Macedonia2025 are very proud of the outcome from the program and are eager to reach an even bigger number of participants in the future, further enhancing it through the successful cooperation with Birthright Macedonia.
