My name is Ivona, and I received the scholarship from Macedonia2025 in 2016 to attend the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Management. I graduated in June last year and moved to London where I am pursuing a master’s degree at the London School of Economics (LSE) in Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation.
What encouraged you to apply to the RANEPA – Macedonia2025 provided scholarship?
For me personally, the two major reasons for applying for the scholarship were the program I studied (Global Governance and Leadership) and the academy itself.
I wanted to do a business degree because I wanted to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the core elements of business and management. The unique aspect of the Global Governance and Leadership program at RANEPA was its practical component; the compulsory internships were an opportunity for me to learn not only academic theory, but also how to apply it to real-life business situations.
At the same time, my intent on focusing on social sciences made RANEPA the perfect place to start my academic education – the Academy is the largest social science higher-education institution in Eurasia and many of the greatest academics from Eastern Europe are either full-time or visiting professors at the Academy.
Please outline at least three main benefits from the program that helped you to extend your personal and business skills and growth?
One of the main benefits of the program is the opportunity to learn the Russian language. This is a skill that serves me well, even after leaving Moscow. Russia is one of the fastest growing emerging markets, making it an attractive destination for many top-tier companies. The knowledge of the Russian language is a great asset on the labour market nowadays.
During my bachelor’s studies at RANEPA, I witnessed a constant improvement of my managerial skills. I acquired a skill set enabling me to respond to challenges and current developments in business and society, and to make informed decisions that consider ethical, economic, and social implications.
Lastly, living in Moscow is an experience on its own. Being exposed to a different culture and different values and having to adjust to a new lifestyle made me more open-minded and made me skilled at adjusting to new environments easily.
For some of you maybe it is too early to ask this, but have you noticed, in your personal experience, any tangible results from your studies yet?
The most valuable thing I gained during the 4 years I studied at RANEPA are the people I met. Succeeding on the job market today is an increasing challenge and having a professional network is of crucial importance. Many aspects of my education at RANEPA helped me in this direction – group projects, study trips, conferences.
How can you recommend this Program in 5 words?
