“Women and the Labor Markets in Macedonia and WBT” presented at the “Western Balkans Women in Business Regional Forum”

By | Announcements | No Comments

Our CEO, Prof. Nikica Mojsoska Blazhevski, gave a keynote speech at the “Western Balkans Women in Business Regional Forum” organized by EBRD, in Skopje, Macedonia. The topic of the speech was “Women and the Labor Markets in Macedonia and Western Balkan Countries and Turkey (WBT)”.

Mojsoska Blazhevski mainly focused on the societal and economic losses for the WBT region and globally, from the gender disparities in the labor markets. For instance, Macedonia loses 16% of GDP per year due to gender gaps in labor force participation, self-employment and entrepreneurship (Cuberes and Teignier, 2016). Globally, the loss in human capital wealth due to gender inequality is estimated at $160.2 trillion, if we simply assume that women would earn as much as men, and total wealth could increase by 14% globally with gender equality in earnings (WB, 2018). Very few women achieve the highest leadership positions: Only 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women. Mojsoska Blazhevski also discussed the main determinants of the gender inequality, as well as potential remedies for mitigating those disparities.

CELEBRATING A DECADE OF MAKING AN IMPACT

The Macedonia2025’s Annual Report 2018 encloses the biggest achievements of our organization in the previous year. It provides an excellent overview of the numerous events, programs and activities in 2018 and is the best medium that captures the essentials about Macedonia2025.

Last year, we celebrated the tenth year from establishing the organization and we are pleased to see that our work has been fruitful. So far, we have invested 1 million dollars in the leadership development programs and 3 million dollars in activities for economic development. Over 500 managers and entrepreneurs have been positively impacted by our programs, whereas more than 1000 participants have attended the international trade missions and business networking events around the world. Our flagship event – the Macedonia2025 Summit, with over 2500 attendees and more than 400 speakers through the years, has surely become the largest platform for networking and inspiring cooperation in Macedonia and the region.

At this point, we would like to thank all our sponsors, members and partners who make this work possible. We will remain dedicated to our main strategic objectives of attracting foreign investments, strengthening the linkages with the professional diaspora, and accelerating leadership development.
