Igor Lukšić to share insights on the potentials and the economic integrations of the SEE region at the MK2025 Summit

Igor Lukšić was an official candidate for the UN Secretary General at 2016, Prime minister from 2010 to 2012, Deputy Prime minister and minister for affairs and European integration from 2012 to 2016, minister of finance in the period of 2004 to 2010, member of the parliament of Montenegro 2001-03 and member of the parliament of Serbia and Montenegro 2003-06. Presently, Lukšić is with PwC as southeast Europe public sector director.

Spending most of his professional career up to date in the public sector and serving in several governmental positions, Lukšić was committed to political and economic freedoms giving boost to many economic and political reforms. Lukšić advocated for transparency, put emphasis on dialogue and proactive approach both related to internal and foreign relations. While prime minister of Montenegro, he opened accession talks with the EU and completed accession to the WTO. When finance minister of Montenegro, he obtained the first ever credit rating, sold the first Eurobonds and made significant steps to improve Doing Business ranking. As a foreign minister Lukšić was among the key cabinet members working to meet NATO membership conditions and was crucial in launching Western Balkans 6 initiative.

Igor Lukšić holds a PhD in economics of transition, he is married and a father of three.

The Macedonian Businessmen’s Club which was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1950 is believed to be the oldest continually operating business professional’s organization for Macedonian diaspora in the United States. This group is a non-profit that seeks to promote Macedonian heritage among its members and funds college scholarships for students of Macedonian heritage.

The two organizations have agreed to mutually promote activities and to collaborate on future events organized in the US.

The immediate past president and current Community Relations & PR Committee Chair, Michael Stakleff, has visited Macedonia2025 this July and was thrilled with the organization’s vision and events.

Macedonia2025 is excited about this partnership and looks forward to reaching out to more successful professionals of Macedonian origin from Ohio, USA.

Executive Director Sonja Šmuc on women in leadership at the MK2025 Summit

Sonja Šmuc is an Executive Director of the Managers’ Association of Slovenia (MAS) since 2005. Sonja focuses on development of Slovenian management and leadership to encourage competitiveness of Slovenian businesses. Sonja is also a specialist in women’s leadership.  Sonja has also served as a Treasurer of CEC – European Managers, a European confederation of managerial organizations with headquarters in Brussels. In 2006 Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia co-awarded her with bronze award for innovation in publishing. She is also a co-author of a book on managing export risks. Before joining MAS she was editor-in-chief of magazine “Manager”, which specialized in leadership and management.

Sonja is the author of more than 700 business related articles. She has a degree from the Economic Faculty in Ljubljana, and she attended courses at Stanford University of California, Vienna’s Wirtschaftsuniversität and IEDC – Business school of Bled.

Welcome to the ladies panel, and what is the required role of women as leaders for sustainable future

The role of the women in today’s society has evolved quite a lot in the past dozens of years. Yet, we are still far from seeing an equal status between men and women. We see many cases where women are still undermined in their true being. They still get fewer promotions at work, they still receive lower salaries compared to their male colleagues who are on the same career ladder as them, and we still wait to see an increase in the leadership roles occupied by women. Despite the emergence of resilient women leaders spearheading the search for sustainable growth, women remain underrepresented in critical decision-making arenas.

Women around the world are demanding and creating a systematic change in how society works. Women’s default career is no longer staying at home to keep the children and clean the house. With years passing by, women have understood that they are more than housewives, and are ready to step into the world of professional development. Women possess unique capacity to sustain our future in an uncertain world, and societies should leverage women’s leadership in the process of development of sustainable, adaptive solutions.

Understanding the critical intersection between gender and a sustainable future, one of this year’s Macedonia2025 panels with explore exactly the central role women play in implementing solutions effectively across the globe, therefore creating a sustainable future for all of us. Ana Arsov, Managing Director in Moody’s U.S. Financial Institutions team and Macedonia2025 Board Member will chair this panel that will consist of four other ladies:

2017 Diaspora Investor Survey Reminder – Your chance to give your views on investing in Macedonia

Dana Gavish – Fridman on how Israel stimulates growth with innovations and R&D at the MK2025 Summit 2017

As VP Entrepreneurship at Ben Gurion University and its commercial arm – BGN Technologies-, Dana Gavish Fridman serves as a unique focal point to the flourishing ecosystem of the city of Beer Sheva, that connects between the academy, business partners, startups, VCs and multinationals.

In her previous role, Ms. Gavish-Fridman was VP Marketing at Yissum, the Hebrew University Technology Transfer company, for over twelve years. She was responsible for overall strategic marketing and PR activities and has successfully brought early-stage scientific inventions to commercialization with local and international business partners. Gavish-Fridman was also responsible for business development activities related to technologies in the fields of Chemistry, Nanotechnology and Physics.

Prior to joining Yissum in 2004, Ms Gavish-Fridman spent seven years as a producer at Israel’s Channel 2 television news, Associated Press Television, and Fox News. She subsequently worked as a business development manager at several start-up companies and a business development consultancy. She holds a BA in Political Science and Literature, and an Executive MBA in Integrative Management, both from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

On 1 and 2 November, Skopje will host the Macedonia2025 Summit for the sixth time, and will be held at Mаrriott Hotel. The Summit is a leading regional platform for sharing the latest global trends in business, investment, technological innovation and responsible leadership.

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs

ICT Cluster Bulgaria is looking to support and fund would – be entrepreneurs and start-ups form Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro and Ukraine to participate in Erasmus for Young entrepreneurs programme.

If you have a business idea or if you have already started your own business, Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs offers you the possibility to spend up to six months abroad to learn how to bring your business to the next level.

ICT Cluster is an intermediate organisation form Bulgaria under the programme at the moment has €100 000 to support young entrepreneurs, with no experience to contributes to travel and subsistence costs during the visit and gain the skills and knowledge to develop their own successful business.


Who can participate?

New entrepreneurs (NE): New entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs who are firmly planning to set up their own business or have already started their own business within the last three years. The business can be in any sector. NEs must demonstrate a sound educational and vocational background and aviable business idea.

Host entrepreneurs (HE): Host entrepreneurs are experienced entrepreneurs who own or manage a micro, small or medium-sized enterprise more than 3 years.


There are no age limit and no topic restrictions, any industry or sector can take part.


Benefits for the new entrepreneur:

·      Learning from an experienced entrepreneur in another EU country and knowledge on start-up and business management form the host entrepreneur;

·      Practical and financial assistance, such as match-making, issuing contracts, induction before going abroad, logistical and local support during the stay, and a European Commission grant to the travel and subsistence costs during the stay abroad;
